Writer
I am a writer living on a small farm in Southeast Virginia. Through my writing I explore the joy of connections, and the pain of connections gone wrong. I have an abiding, life-long love of story leading to an award-winning career as a librarian and a house packed with ten thousand books.
Biography
Jan Marry has published short stories, personal essays, articles, and book reviews in several outlets including Nature Futures, The Hopkins Review, Virginia Libraries and Library Journal. Her first novel, Sweet Tea and Anzac Biscuits, is being released soon by Blue Fortune Publishing. She is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Writers and the James River Writers. Jan has an M.A. in science writing from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Library Science from the University of Illinois, a B.A. in English from the University of Maryland, and a B.Sc. in zoology from the University of Otago.
Jan has been a librarian for two decades and revels in book groups, book displays, writing book reviews, and sharing books through library programs. In 2021 she was awarded the Donna G. Cote Virginia Librarian of the Year. Originally from New Zealand, Jan lived in six countries with her military family before settling on a small farm in Southeast Virginia where herding chickens and cats at the same time is a frequent (and non-metaphorical) occurrence.
